Why climb?

Every year remarkable men and women climb 1,204 steps and 775 vertical feet (on top of 3400 feet of elevation) in support of local Calgary charity, Wellspring Calgary.  Wellspring supports firefighters and civilians living with cancer through programs and resources offered to them free of charge.

What is Wellspring Calgary?

Wellspring Calgary offers programs and resources to people affected by cancer.  Programs help members address the fear, isolation, and practical problems cancer brings to their lives.  All Wellspring Calgary programs, services and resources are offered free of charge and without referral so no one has to face cancer alone.  To find out more about Wellspring go to

What is The Calgary Firefighters Benevolent Society?

The Calgary Firefighters Benevolent Society’s (CFBS) purpose is to provide assistance to firefighters and their families when they experience health related issues. Firefighting is an inherently dangerous and unhealthy occupation. Only the fittest and healthiest of the population are recruited and unfortunately, due to the many adverse exposures a firefighter faces, the majority of them retire with serious health and injury related problems. The CFBS addresses these needs.

What about tax receipts?

Donations of $20.00 or more will receive a Canadian tax receipt for the entire amount of the donation (provided all donor information is provided with the gift). You will either receive an electronic receipt from Wellspring Calgary if your donation was made online by credit card, or you will be snail-mailed a receipt from Wellspring Calgary for cash and cheque donations.

If you’re collecting cash and cheque donations, please use the PLEDGE FORM to record full donor contact information including address.  Unfortunately, we’re not be able to provide tax receipts to donors with incomplete contact information.

When does registration open?

Registration opens January 4, 2018.  Watch Facebook, Twitter, this website and your inbox (if you’re a past participant) for the official launch annoucement.

How much does it cost to participate in this event?

The early bird event registration fee is $200.  You can donate the full amount at time of registration OR pay a minimum $50 fee and fundraise the rest.  The $200 fee will be charitably tax receipted.  You MUST raise the full $200 by March 29, 2018 to reserve your place in the climb, or you give us permission to charge your credit card for the balance.

On March 30, 2018, the fee increases to $250 per person payable in full.

It’s easy to fundraise when you tell people why you’re climbing: to take on a personal challenge to support those affected by cancer.  If you’re on a team, as long as your team raises $200 per person each firefighter’s registration fee is assumed to be covered.

Every $150 you raise ensures one person receives one full month of programs and resources offered through Wellspring Calgary.  The more you raise, the more people you help!

Who do I make cheques payable to?

Please make cheques payable to Wellspring Calgary.  They can be mailed to 1404 Home Rd NW Calgary AB T3B 1G7, Attn: Fund Development.  If you’re sponsoring a specific firefighter or team, please make sure you attach a note on or to the cheque to name the person or team so we’ll know who to apply the donation to.
