My name is Bennett Young. I’m a volunteer firefighter with the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department. This is my first year climbing in the Calgary Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge.
I am dedicating my climb this year to Donald Tippe, Tina Tippe, Eryn Tippe, and Justin Tippe. Don was diagnosed in April 2002 with Multiple Myeloma, a rare form of blood cancer. At the time of diagnosis, they knew there was no cure and he was given two years to live. Through courage and determination, he battled his cancer for six long, love- and life-filled years. His battle ended on January 11, 2008. Don left behind his beautiful family: his loving and devoted wife Tina, daughter Eryn the eldest child, and Justin, the new man of the house. I first learned of their heart breaking story when I began dating Eryn two years ago.
When I joined the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department a couple months ago, I heard about this benefit for Wellspring. I knew I had to do this challenge in loving memory of an amazing man, husband, and father who left this world too early. The picture is Don Tippe, my girlfriend’s dad.
