IN-PERSON: Canada Olympic Park VIRTUAL: May 27 - June 5
Do you have what it takes?
This year marks the 8th annual Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge in support of Wellspring Calgary! Keeping safety measures in place, we are introducing a hybrid event in 2022, where participants will have the chance to climb in-person at Canada Olympic Park (COP) on June 5, 2022 or virtually from May 27 – June 5, 2022.
Originally inspired by Kathy Blas, sister of local fallen firefighter Gord Paul, the event and its proceeds support firefighters and citizens in our community who are fighting cancer. This event is made possible thanks to the generous support and involvement of the Calgary Fire Department, the International Association of Firefighters Local 255 and our event sponsors.
How it Works
Firefighters and members of the public from all over come together, either online or in-person, to compete and climb – all while raising money for Wellspring Calgary!
Cancer is a prevalent occupational hazard of the firefighter’s job. Proceeds from this event ensure Wellspring Calgary can provide supportive care to firefighters and citizens living with cancer.
Two firefighters from the station in Engesvang, Denmark threw themselves into an international challenge last Friday, which involved 1,204 steps in a 20-kilo worksuit.
Join us for the Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge wrap-up on Facebook Live, where we will announce prize winners and hear from Calgary Fire Department Chief, Steve Dongworth, as well as Codey McIntyre, Acting President of the Firefighters Assistance Charitable Society.
