Michael Mosca has been a firefighter for over 15 years and for the past 10 years, he’s been signing up to supporter Wellspring and participate in the Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge.

“Everyone has family and friends who have gone through cancer, and in the fire service, it can be even more common,” said Michael. “I just want to serve the community and help out in any way I can. Since it’s a big event with firefighters involved – it’s a no brainer.”

Michael says it’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years of climbing. He offers praise of the event and shows no sign of ending his long running dedication to the fundraiser any time soon.

“The stairclimb is just awesome, and it gets better every year! I want to give a shoutout to Wellspring and all the volunteers. It’s amazing the amount of work they put in and it shows with how great the stairclimb is every year,” said Michael.

Michael and his crew mates from Calgary Livingston Fire Station No. 44, have been ramping up their fitness with some running and stairclimbing in preparation for the big day in June. As the weather improves, they plan to do some training sessions as a team at the stairs along Memorial Drive.

On event day, Michael’s wife, daughter and mother will be at Brookfield Place, cheering him on, and socializing with the families of other team members.

“It’s a challenge and a grind, but it’s worth it. It’s nerve wracking right at the bottom before you go up, but when you finish, having all the volunteers and workers clapping you through the end, is a pretty unreal experience. The energy is amazing,” said Michael.
