My name is Brad Shearing from Fort Sasketchewan, Alberta. I joined this climb in 2017 to tell the story of my mom after she was diagnosed with cancer and climb in her honour.

Every year the climb became a way to manage my anger, frustration, and tears, knowing that cancer puts a timeline on your loved ones and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Over the years I watched her go through chemo and radiation treatments being the strongest person I know, determined, fighting, and not willing to give up.

When she was diagnosed I gave her my firefighter coin that said “Never Go Gently,” and she did exactly that and fought to the bitter end until February 19th 2022 when Mom lost her battle with cancer.

I love you mom, this year is for you.
