Three years climbing and will be doing it again

In 2015, the first year that the climb took place, I wanted to do it, however, my family was going through one of the toughest times: my grandmother, Julie, had just been diagnosed with breast cancer and was not expected to have long to live. Cancer is a monster, and my grandmother passed away soon after diagnosis. When the stairclimb challenge came around again the next year, I knew that I was going to do it and that I was going to complete the challenge in memory of my grandmother. The stairclimb challenge has become an annual tradition for me, where I remember and honour my grandmother, completing the climb with her picture over my heart. Cancer is becoming more and more prevalent (especially for firefighters!) and while my grandmother was the first person close to me that I lost to cancer, she was not the last. I believe in the cause behind the stairclimb, in supporting Wellspring, because of how much good they do in our community for people and families going through life with cancer.

Fundraising Tip: Challenge yourself! Don’t settle for what you know you can easily achieve, push yourself. Set a goal that will make you work for it, and then get out there. Talk to friends and family, tell them why you want to do this challenge and show how passionate you are about the cause.
